Discovering What Really Matters
As a maternity, newborn, and family photographer who specializes in capturing authentic moments, my journey to this career wasn’t exactly straightforward.
When the world stopped in March 2020, I found myself with something I hadn’t experienced in a decade: time. At 36, I had checked all the conventional success boxes—two master’s degrees, a thriving career in social work and public health, and a beautiful family. From the outside, I was living the dream. But something was missing.
During those moments of reflection, I realized I had been living the life I thought I was supposed to live, rather than the one I truly wanted. As I began exploring what brought me genuine joy, two themes kept emerging: photography and connection.
The Power of Authentic Family Photos
What started as a rekindled hobby quickly evolved into a passion for capturing real, unscripted family moments. I discovered that authentic family photography isn’t just about taking pictures—it’s about preserving beautifully imperfect moments
As both a photographer and a mother, I understand how quickly time passes. When I looked up in 2020, my own daughter was suddenly nine years old. The years had simply gone by too quickly. This experience influences how I approach family photography today—I’m not just taking pictures; I’m helping families preserve their memories.
My Approach to Family Photography
What sets my photography apart is my commitment to authenticity. I believe the most beautiful family photos are the ones that capture genuine moments:
-Natural interactions between family members
-Real laughter and genuine emotions
-Unplanned humorous moments that truly represent your family’s personality
A New Chapter: Combining Passion with Purpose
Today, more than four years into my journey as a family photographer, I’ve found that my background in clinical social work enhances my ability to connect with families and capture their authentic moments. I’ve recently returned to my those roots, working as a therapist while continuing to document families through my lens.
Looking Forward
My mission is simple: to help families preserve their real, authentic moments through photography. Whether it’s the gentle chaos of breakfast time, a playful afternoon in the backyard, or those quiet bedtime snuggles, these are the moments that tell your family’s true story.
